Clyde Howarth

I am Inupiaq from Kotzebue, Alaska. I’ve learned to carve with Paul Tellina, originally from king Island. He owned a carving shop and was willing to teach us at a early age. I’ve been carving for over 30 years. I carve ivory, baleen, whalebone, jewelry, sculptures and scrimshaws. I’m known for my traditional baleen boats, ivory and baleen boxes. My favorite etching is a killer whale etched on a box. I also do a lot of custom orders. My art work helps me self sustain myself. My work is displayed on the Two Spirits Gallery website. I am thankful to Two Spirits Gallery that is under CITCI for having a place for me and others to do our art, to help keep the tradition alive.
