Carver Henry Koonook is from a whaling village and belongs to the Kungmuktuuq tribe on his father’s side. In traditional style, Koonook was taught by his father and uncles to hunt the bowhead whale and to honor traditional values such as respect for elders, the land and all animals. Koonook has been clean and sober for 10 years. He is not proud of his past, but is very proud of who he is now.
